| ***************************************** Monthly Meetings on the First Tuesday ***************************************** Meeting: February 7, 2012 Social time begins at 6:15 pm with the program beginning at 6:45 pm Where: Ramada Convention Center, 1400 North Lorraine, Hutchinson, KS Agenda
◙ Immigration ◙ Obamacare ◙ Fair Tax The Union of Patriots, founded in 2010, is an organization dedicated to elevating and supporting principled political leadership who advocate for consistent conservative, Constitutional ideas of limited government, personal freedom, and respect for life. We also are actively working to hold all of our elected representatives, regardless of party, accountable to their stated positions and the oath of office that they took to support, protect, and defend the Constitution – and we will oppose those who do not. The Union of Patriots and FairTax KC have joined forces to promote “Freedom’s Big Three,” a package of legislative and executive reforms that we are advocating for in this year’s Kansas legislative session. These Big 3 are as follows: - Stopping Obamacare in Kansas – Governor Sam Brownback, Attorney General Derek Schmidt, and Kansas state leadership, as well as the Republican Party of Kansas, have stated emphatically that they oppose the Obamacare law in its entirety, and have joined a lawsuit with 25 other states that is being heard this coming spring in the Supreme Court. However, the state of Kansas accepted $85 million in 90/10 federal matching funds under Medicaid to develop a system (the Kansas Eligibility Enforcement System, or KEES) that must be totally compliant with Obamacare as a condition of receiving the federal portion of the funds. Union of Patriots is dedicated to stopping this system which threatens to “hand over the KEES” to our healthcare to Kathleen Sebelius and Barack Obama.
- REAL Illegal Immigration Reform – the Union of Patriots is in full support of Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s attempts to rein in illegal immigration in this state. Three bills (one on state aid to illegals, one on enforcement of immigration law, and a third on mandatory use of E-Verify for all state contractors) will be heard in the Kansas Legislature during this session. We are expecting that principled, conservative legislators will vote YES on all three of these critical measures to protect Kansas taxpayers and make the rule of law relevant again.
- Institution of the FairTax KC “0-0-0+6.3” Tax Plan – We believe that in order for our state’s budget situation to be healthy again, we cannot afford to lose any more companies such as Boeing (and the jobs associated with them) to neighboring, low-tax states. Kansas needs to end the income tax once and for all, not convert it to a flat-tax with the vague promise to get it to zero sometime in the future. The economic growth that would be generated by eliminating corporate and individual taxes on income would create a revenue explosion the likes of which the State of Kansas has never seen before. The Union of Patriots and FairTax KC will be supporting legislation that will institute the immediate elimination of corporate income tax, individual sales tax, and all targeted tax exemptions to broaden the tax base and make the tax system “fair” for everyone.
Speaker Biographies Steve Shute is a co-founder of Union of Patriots and currently serves as its Co-Chair. He has been involved in grassroots Kansas politics since 2007. Shute previously served as Co-Chair of Kansas Campaign for Liberty and Executive Director of the Hope for America Coalition, and he also serves on the Kansas Republican Party State Executive Committee. He is a healthcare IT systems professional by trade, and lives in Gardner with his wife and five sons. “The Geezer” is also a co-founder, and serves as Co-Chair of Union of Patriots. Previous to his work with Union of Patriots, he was active for over a decade with Kansas FairTax, serving for a time on their Board of Directors for the State and with FairTax KC. When he’s not being a grassroots activist, he works as a locksmith. He lives in Shawnee. Jeff Locke is a volunteer for Kansas Fair Tax, spending much time speaking across Kansas on behalf of the fair tax initiative. He is a professor at Fort Scott Community College in Pittsburg, KS. Her was the Board of Directors for the Kansans Raising Cain organization to elect Herman Cain as President. ***************************************** Meeting: March 6, 2012 Social time begins at 6:15 pm with the program beginning at 6:45 pm Where: Ramada Convention Center, 1400 North Lorraine, Hutchinson, KS Agenda ◙ Speaker Richard Fry will provide analysis on NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) and how this legislation could impact certain freedoms provided in the Constitution.

There are two versions, the old one, and the modern.
Old Version: The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house, and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
Moral of the Old Version: You are responsible for yourself!
Modern Version: The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house, and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ants should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.
CBS, NBC, PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so? Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, “It's Not Easy Being Green.”
ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, “We Shall Overcome.” Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray for the grasshopper's sake.
President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Wall Street, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share. Also the ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.
The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.
The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize and ramshackle the once prosperous and peaceful, neighborhood.
The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.
Moral of the Modern Version: Don’t vote for anyone who claims to spread the wealth around. Beware of slogans like, “hope and change.” They are dead serious when they say “We are going to fundamentally change America.” ************************ | |
